I picked up the accordion after college when I didn't have a piano available. Self taught. Played for pleasure for about 10 years. Played as a volunteer for Bread and Roses, an organization founded by Mimi Farina (Joan Baez's sister) to send musicians into institutional settings. Mimi called me one day for a paying gig at a book signing for Alice Waters (Creator of California Cuisine) When I was done, the bookstore owner went to the register and gave me $75 cash. I thought "This is cool!" and decided to learn all the favorite accordion songs and put myself out there. There was no internet, and for years I had a small print listing in the yellow pages under "Musicians." A-A Strolling Accordion for Parties. I was the first listing, and some people thought "Well he's going to be cheaper than a band." The rest is history
This is really hard. Greatest song of all time? Come on. How about French? "La Vie en Rose" by Edith Piaf. Italian? "The Godfather Theme" by Nino Rota, German? Hofbrau House by Who Knows?
I have been a lifelong painter, mostly representational landscapes. I also teach an architectural modeling program.
