As many other Brazilian dance groups have emerged during the 20 years of our existence, yet Aquarela only has maintained its reputation as the most sought after Brazilian dance company in the San Francisco Bay Area. Aquarela's members take pride in the group's reputation of genuine interpreters of authentic Brazilian music and dance. While most other groups only focus on the glamorous, costumed Rio de Janeiro style of Samba, Aquarela's dancers perform a variety of popular Brazilian dances that showcase the diversity of Brazilian culture, including Afoxé, Samba Reggae, Xaxado, Forró, Pagode, Gafieira, and Axé in addition to the Rio-style Samba. Aquarela is also recognized for its creative and sometimes daring costumes (all handmade by the dancers themselves), yet Aquarela never diverges from its goal of accurately and respectfully promoting Brazilian music and dance, as well as representing our nation and culture and sharing it with the rest of the world.
