Beat-Route has become a household name in Jazz circles in KZN and is one of the busiest Wedding acts on the circuit. The band has been gigging around Durban since 2004 featuring at countless Corporate Events, Private Functions and Weddings with an infectious, subtle and nuanced acoustic sound. Beat-Route performs as anything from a sophisticated instrumental Jazz Quartet right up to a dynamic 6 piece band.
In the smaller format Beat-Route focuses on the traditional acoustic swing sound that has been their niche for many years, with a vast repertoire of Standards from the American and South African Jazz Songbooks, some unique originals and some Jazzy interpretations of some more mainstream material including Maroon5, Amy Winehouse, John Meyer, Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder as well as some acid jazz and Groove material. This sophisticated repertoire with their nuanced and subtle sound makes Beat-Route the ideal musical note for any high-end corporate networking and cocktail type event.
The basic line-up features Trumpet / Flugelhorn, Guitar, Upright Bass and Drums. For bigger events with more pizazz we augment the band adding one of our gorgeous and dynamic vocalists, a horn section, key and percussion.

We require a 3m x 4m set up area, free from the elements (sun/rain/wind) for the quartet and quintet and a dedicated power point within 10m. For more than 120 Pax we require additional sound provisions from a tech company.
Clear directions to the venue and what power source they have available.
Basic sound and colour lighting available (included) for small/medium venue and up to max 120 Guest capacity
We have our own music for intervals.
We performed for all the Durban 2010 Soccer World Cup matches at Mose Mabhida Stadium.
We love small intimate acoustic events but are also comfortable on bigger stages.
We started in 2004 at a small venue in Morningside in Durban, called first 'Manna' then 'Market', playing for their Friday lunch crowd. We kept the gig going for over 17 years with the venue changing ownership twice.
We have many influences. Miles, Chet, Wes, Oscar, Duke, Ahmed Jamal to name a few.
Set up 1 hour prior to performance time. Performance is typically 2 to 3 hour block for most gigs.
As long as we have a level area, a dedicated power supply within 10m and are protected from the elements. No Sun/Wind/Rain.
We have a vast repertoire and generally read the event and the crowd. Client is welcome to suggest repertoire at least 2 weeks prior to the event and if we are able to we will learn and add it.
People often say they didnt realise they enjoyed Jazz. Our sound makes it very accessible. They also love that we sounded so good but that guests could still chat, mingle and network.
