Michael, the leader of Big City Dixieland, as well as most of the musicians, have all been professional musicians and educators for 20+ years. Collectively we performed at hundreds and hundreds of weddings, funerals, corporate events, parties, and various events!
I’ve been most influenced by legendary New Orleans jazz artists like the Original Dixieland Jazz Band and Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five, as well as modern icons like the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Their energy, improvisation, and rich history have deeply shaped my musical journey. As for my favorite artist, aside for Charlie Parker and Michael Brecker, the big bands that can swing and play dixie are some of my favorites including Benny Goodman and Woody Herman. Woody Herman and his "thundering herd" his blend of swing, big band, and jazz has always resonated with me. When it comes to the greatest song of all time, It's really difficult to say since there are so any Of course "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. It’s timeless, full of emotion, and continues to connect with audiences across generations. But there's nothing like "When The Saints Go Marchin in" and "Down By The Riverside" for accommodating a great Dixieland beat!
We typically arrive 45 minute to an hour before the start time of the engagement.
