Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Too many to choose from. Two residencies at Ronnie Scott’s London with Barbara Thompson’s Paraphernalia a highlight.

I do like to tell the story of the time when a gypsy band I was with were the main support act for Tom Jones‘s homecoming concert at Pontypridd in front of 25,000 people. Before we went on, we had also been booked to play in the hospitality tent backstage to the VIPs. After our performance supporting Tom we then went to Cardiff to play at a wedding reception at the McDonald’s hotel. A good day - and the sort of thing I/we can do anytime.

What's your favourite type of event?

All sorts of events. Hotel residencies are excellent. Weddings are special of course. I like to feel I am there for the couple to help them and their guests relax and enjoy the day. If the band is booked then anything can happen!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Professional for 27 years in many fields of music... Mostly with my violins.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Biggest influences, probably Django Reinhardt and Steffan Grappelli. My classical upbringing has helped throughout my career.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I like to set up at least an hour to 2 hours in advance.
I generally expect to do 2 sets of around 50 minutes.
If I’m booked to play at a wedding solo, I generally play as guest arrive and then as the Bride comes in. I also play during the signing of the register and then as the bride and groom leave. Sometimes then at the drinks reception and also sometimes at the wedding breakfast.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Performing outside is fine as long as there is cover if necessary. I have a battery operated solution if required.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Yes, I have a huge repertoire of music when playing solo. I enjoy expanding my repertoire further by asking clients to suggest what tunes they might like to hear.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

I have many reviews on other sites. All my reviews are five star (out to 5 !) with the clients being incredibly happy that they chose to book me.
