I perform solo acoustic or with tracks. I sometimes add extra vocalists. I am working on a full band, but I am not able to offer that as of yet. I will update here when that is available. I am able to meet most requests given that I have them at least 7 days before the show date.
My loves are country, gospel, praise & worship, folk, and soft rock. I am not limited to these genres. I have some experience in big band, jazz, classical, and hard rock.
The venue must provide a reasonable basic sound system. An example would be a system with at least a Mackie ProFX10v3 Mixing Board, Electro-Voice ZLX 12BT 12″ Powered Speakers (x3, 2 for the house, 1 for a monitor), a Shure Beta 58a, and the various cables and other connectors required, such as direct boxes, XLR cables, 1/4" cables, etc.
I will rent you a sound system if necessary for an addendum of $500 for set-up, tear-down, and a sound technician.
I need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue. I also want the venue's capacity, stage dimensions, sound system capabilities, lighting options, backstage facilities, parking availability, load-in/load-out procedures, audience demographics, contact information for the venue manager, and any specific technical requirements or restrictions to properly prepare for a performance at that location.
I can rent you a sound system if necessary for an addendum of $500 for set-up, tear-down, and a sound technician. I do not have lighting equipment at this time.
I am happy to play music from Spotify before, after, and between our sets. Please let me know if there is any specific music you would like at those times, whether it is specific songs or specific genres, etc.
My personal favorite gig I've ever done was a coffee house in Houston. I was playing with a fellow musician, and it was a packed house. We had probably 70 people in a space really meant for about 40. We were playing some covers and originals, and on the covers the whole place was singing along. They clapped on the covers and, by the end of a few songs, were singing the chorus along with us! It was like we picked exactly the right songs for the right moments all night long. Plus, we got some amazing coffee for free while we played! Sweet people, and they were so kind and gracious to us.
Every event has its own charm. I suppose I love any venue where I can make people dance. Whether it be a wedding or just a dance hall I've come to increasingly enjoy the joy on the dancer's faces.
I started playing in the praise band at church in high school. Once I got to college, I was often asked to lead music at various camps and other religious gatherings. From there, I branched out to other genres and venues. I still remember the first time I played Billy Blues in Houston. May it rest in peace. (An amazing venue gone way too soon!) I played a bunch of acoustic blues, and that was my first non-religious event. The feedback I got encouraged me that I could have both of my musical loves, the secular and the sacred.
George Jones is the greatest country singer of all time. "A Good Year For The Roses" is my personal favorite. However, my influences are wide. I love all kinds of country music, but also James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Nirvana, Marvin Gaye, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Counting Crows, The Beatles, and Johnny Cash.
I love so much music and therefore never find it difficult to find a crowd favorite or meet a reasonable request. In fact, meeting requests almost becomes like a game and I enjoy knowing a song that is called out and the smile people get when I play it!
I normally show up 2 hours before to set up and sound check. I normally perform 2 45-minute sets. I am happy to do more or less time as need demands, but I have found that is what best suits myself and most audiences.
I am glad to perform outside. I require a shaded place to play, a flat, level surface, and a power supply nearby the stage or performance area.
I am happy to meet requests and learn up to 5 specific songs if I do not know the specific requests. Clients are welcome to pick a set list from my repertoire or may let me choose the music for them. Generally, I pick my own set lists, but I am flexible on the matter.
My clients seem to laugh a lot and have a good time. I often see people dancing. They like to hear little stories about some of the songs, though the more music, the better is my thought, so I don't talk too much during the set. I like to engage the crowd in between sets and build rapport in that way. Customers seem to like that in most venues, but I always adjust my approach for the specific audience and given situation.
