About / Biography

With LED lights with a variety of settings to create the perfect atmosphere for evening events particularly, Cecily can play a huge selection of songs and pieces from a variety of genres.

Resident Harpist at The Waldorf Hotel in Covent Garden, London since 2014, Cecily has a wealth of experience playing in some of the finest venues in London and the UK. She has played for celebrity and royal clientele to the average Joe - everyone deserves some luxury, which is exactly what a harp provides.

The most popular music requests are modern pop and film and disney music. As the Waldorf has had a Beauty and the Beast themed Afternoon Tea running since 2022, Cecily has a large selection of Disney and enjoys adding more pop to her list regularly throughout each year. Keeping up to date is incredibly important.

Cecily regularly performs with extra amplification as her concert harp has a pickup installed which helps the harp create the perfect level of ambience with guest numbers up to 300. Above that number, she recommends a sound engineer to amplify the harp properly for the event space.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Performance space of at least 2 x 2 meters. No power required. Parking space is preferable if possible. Disabled access also desirable but not a deal breaker.

What information do you require about a venue?

Access to be able to move the harp in and out easily. Where is easy to unload outside.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I have ethereal lighting on the harp itself, and provide a battery amp for extra amplification if required.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can play a Spotify playlist through my speaker during my breaks if needed, or the venue can usually put on their own music while I take a break.

Are you completely acoustic?

Yes and no. I absolutely can be, but I love using my battery amp to help the harp be heard above chatter during receptions and dinners. Depending on guest numbers, I usually always recommend using my amp (at no extra charge), but if numbers are on the more intimate side (30 guests or fewer) then it won't be needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Goodwood House - a completely gold themed dinner where human statues, covered in gold paint, processed out of the room with my harp on their shoulders. I wore a gold dress, gold eyelashes, and gold hair spray.

What's your favourite type of event?

I adore weddings - everyone is always so happy and are thrilled to recognise their favourite songs on the harp! I love all events though, and evening corporate events are usually pretty spectacular and a joy to be a part of.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been playing background music for events since the age of 16, and since having held the position as Resident Harpist at the Waldorf Hotel in Covent Garden, my palying style and repertoire have improved dramatically. It's one of the best jobs in the world.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Very eclectic mix - Muse, Beatles, Debussy, Ravel, Beethoven, Mozart, Hans Zimmer! All music is amazing which is why I play as much from different genres as possible. I couldn't possibly name one song to be the best.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I can set up in as little as 15 minutes, but prefer to give myself 45-60 minutes so there's no rushing and I'm set up in advance of guests arriving. I can play up to an hour before taking a break, but typically I'll play a couple of sets of 45 minutes with a 15 minute break in between.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes if the weather conditions are right - dry and warm. The harp needs to be on a flat and level surface and in a sheltered position. I have a mat that can go underneath the harp on grass.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I offer a purely bespoke list to all my clients and I also love learning new music so requests are encouraged.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

The most common phrase I hear from previous clients is 'our guests loved it!'. People enjoy hearing familiar music on an unusual and very luxurious instrument like the harp. It can be upbeat or tranquil depending on what fits the atmosphere and people always respond very positively.

How long can you play for before taking a break?

I don't like playing longer than an hour before taking a break.

I have a song request which isn't on your list. Can you learn it for me?

I love learning new music, so 99% of the time it's a yes! It will depend on the music, and whether I can find sheet music etc. If sheet music isn't available and you have your heart set on something, then I do offer a bespoke arrangement at a small charge. I learn up to three requests included in my normal rate, and anything extra will be a small charge.
