Cousin Jay has always had a passion for beats since learning the drums from the age of eleven. He owned his first pair of decks at sixteen but pursued the Indie Rock band scene around the UK in his late teens & early twenties.
Upon leaving university, he worked for Classic Album Sundays - an audiophile events brand with a global reach including Oslo, Japan and New York, which discusses and celebrates the inner workings of creating a classic album. C.A.S. invites high profile guests to explain their involvement, be it the artist, producer or engineer.
Jay had a hands-on role with assisting the set up and curation of the event spaces and guests, under the stewardship of high profile and successful journalist, and BBC 6 music radio DJ Coleen “Cosmo” Murphy.
His first professional DJ gig was in the summer of 2013 at Studio Space E2 (Now Shoreditch Platform). It was a Hip Hop warm up set full of underground 90’s classics - so much fun he decided to take it further. The next year he performed his first festival set at Lost Festival. It was here he formed many music based friendships and would later become part of the Discofunk crew.
Using these shows as a springboard to build his reputation as a tastemaker; Cousin Jay has had the honour of gracing the wheels of steel at various prestigious venues such as The Queen of Hoxton, The Spread Eagle, Styx, Prince of Wales Brixton, Egg, Horse & Groom, and Discofunk festival takeovers at Aespia, Bestival and Hogsozzle. Sharing a stage with the likes of Cody Currie, Kay Suzuki, Mr. Thing, DJ Yoda and Jazzie B.
This North London collector and selector specialises in Disco Anthems, Funk Jams, Rare Groove Gems, Soulful Hip Hop and Jazzy/Deep House. He always brings heart and energy to each set that permeates through the music.
