Danny “Conga” Valdez has been a New York City Musician for over 20 years. He started playing congas at age 8 at his family church. Although mostly self-taught, Valdez did take courses at the Harbor Conservatory for the Arts in Spanish Harlem. He started his career playing in multiple wedding bands and providing live percussion in the New York City Club Scene. In addition, Valdez has collaborated with other New York City musicians to bring unique experiences to stages across the city, country, and internationally. During the pandemic Valdez founded his own internet show “Congas and Chill”, in which he not only played congas to carefully curated playlist but he also hosted a lively chat about music among other things with those who tuned in. Currently, Valdez has brought “Congas and Chill” to the people with a residency every Friday evening at Chocobar Cortes in the Bronx.
