About / Biography

Ede is a musician, electric bass player and composer. He was born in 1992 in Eskişehir in Turkey. With the encouragement of his musician father Uğur Faruk Ede, he was accepted to Anadolu University State Conservatory Violin Department in 2003. Between 2003 and 2010, he continued his violin education with Professor Özlem Sümer at Anadolu University and gave solo recitals. During his high school years, he played in the Anadolu University State Conservatory Student Orchestra. Realizing his interest in electric bass and improvisation, he started the bachelor program at Yıldız Technical University - Electric Bass (Bass Guitar) department in 2011. During his four-years undergraduate studies he had worked with professor Kamil Erdem on electric bass, jazz music ensembles and deciphering. The focus of his research project was to study music genres such latin-jazz, jazz-rock and fusion and jazz standards. At his university graduation he performed works of artists such as Alain Caron, Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Joe Handerson and Ron Carter (2015).

In the postgraduate studies, he published a thesis under the advisory of Prof.Dr. Turan Sağer, entitled: "Historical Development of the electric bass and its role in the studios in 1970-1990 popular music of Turkey" (2019). The research included studies of the history of electric bass - from 15th-century reduction of the size of the contrabass, through the 20th-century development of technology resulting in achieving clear sound by adding registers with electrical receptors, to the 1950 invention of Fender Precision. His thesis focused on the role of bass guitar in the popular music in Turkey and in studios. Ede interviewed representatives of Turkish popular music of this period of time. The study aimed to determine the musical development and playing techniques among electric bass players, the role of the instrument in studio musicianship, and important studios of this period.

He graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Music and Performing Arts Master's Program in 2019. In the same year, he was accepted to Doctorate Program at the same Unıversıty. In 2021, he was accepted to the I.J Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan, Poland for his doctoral thesis research within the scope of Erasmus +. Ede continues his electric bass and thesis studies with Prof. Zbigniew Wrombel.

His work ranges from working with Ajda Pekkan as a bass guitarist and music director for Super Saturday television show (2015), to playing with Tarik Sezer Orchestra which repertoire includes various music genres as rock, jazz and Turkish traditional music (2014-2021). His group Ozgur Ede Quartet gave a concert, playing his compositions and jazz standards for Istanbul Foundation For Culture And Arts Young Jazz Concert (2016). He also founded a jazz trio called 'Jazz Graduates' which performed at Yıldız Technical University Jazz Fest. His other projects include BOH Trio jazz band with which gave concerts during festivals and in music clubs around Istanbul (2017). He had worked with artists and teachers such as: Kamil Erdem, Ricardo Moyano, Şenol Küçükyıldırım, Evrim Demirel, Mihail Godstiner.


He is interested in interdisciplinary projects, composing music for films, theatre and performing arts. Ede’s is looking for connection between classical, electronic and minimal music, using synthesizer and sound technologies. He composed music for contemporary dance performances such as Humanımal premiere ın Crıcoteka, Krakow (2021) and The Lungs of the Earth (Central Europe Dance Theatre ın Budapest, Hungary (2021) and solo performance of Magda Nıedzıelska Try not to (2021) which was performed at several dance contests around Poland. He ıs also collaborating with choreographer Prof.Dr. Ayrin Ersoz. Together with his two friends, specializing in musicology, he is hosting a podcast program called Music Conversations with Anxiety, inviting artists.
