I believe that the connection of the Soul and Spirit within music, sets aside the experience a listener can have between a mechanical DJ and art expressionism.
In my DJ Sets, I like to combine music from past to present with a unique and mesmerising mixing style. Being a DJ the past 13 years; the development so far of my music taste seeks to try to touch various experimental notions deep within electronic music sub-genres. Hi-tech Soul’s subtlety has been primarily the foundation of what I consider qualitative in using it as a reflective tool when it comes to selecting the cream within wide categories of underground music. I can create a versatile storytelling scenario in a mix, but I detain as well particular skills in various styles of music which I specifically implement when mixing a certain style or feeling I try to emulate and evoke, by pushing boundaries of creativity in remixing music whilst mixing; transforming and nurturing genres in different perspectives -a style conditioned by time and space. My sets evolve around either inner introspections which are more conceptual and meditative (Instinct), or either bringing you to a higher club experience of dance reprise. The frontier technique between finesse and durity.
In production, I came to realise that old-school techno teaches simplicity to reach of what is quality. The separation of distinct rhythmic grooves and patterns within sounds, in order to form one groove as a whole. One movement; which the listener at various stages at his choice can grab different viewpoints of hearing a track differently. Contemporary techno tends to be more frequential; teaching complexity, in making production variables difficult as a matter of experimentation in order to reach quality. Therefore, usually what is quality is relative - different for a listener and different for an artist. The listener seeks the result. The artist is intrigued by the maze of the process which gave that result. Both old-school and contemporary electronic music are good, if they are of quality. The beauty is that throughout time two extremes were created to teach different angles - the transition of techno & tech music from being philosophical in becoming spiritual.
Initially that's what I think that Detroit techno pioneer, Jeff Mills meant, by saying that ''techno is a futuristic statement''. One who detains a relationship with this music, revelations occur within experiences of time in order to understand the fascination that techno is beyond a genre within its possibilities. He did not go in deeper, he purposely presented the core for you to discover. The core which can be understood only if accessible, making him hope that future-wise artists can elevate the foundation of his idea and decode what he meant. As an analogy; all principals in life are sustained and constructed by a philosophy at first. That's why back then he said that ''techno is a philosophy''. He hoped that artists can discover that techno can be subject of spiritual evolvement if quality remains - the emerging result of a philosophy. The majority got it wrong in interpreting ''futuristic statement'' as the idea that ''techno is the music of the future''. The code was a principal that throughout time certain aspects within this music, if discoverable, are representations of what is present in conjunction to life and spiritual values. Understanding techno is infinite in the unforeseen future in terms of knowledge and wisdom which is attained through experience with resonation, but with the core idea sustaining this infinite pillar of understanding life through techno.
