About / Biography

  • We are a 6-member band that plays original and classic arrangements of Italian old songs, Django Reinhardt's music, swing, American jazz, and some bossa nova too.
  • 3 manouche guitars, fiddle, female singer, and double bass.
  • We have recorded an album called "Souvenir" (fall 2024).
  • In addition to our material we can easily play any of Django's and Grappelli's tunes, our musicians are among the best in Italy and have collaborated with some of the most famous players in this style like Tchavolo Schmitt and Duved Dunayevsky.
  • Our components are spread around Italy from Rome to Turin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

We performed for two editions of the Toscana Django Festival, circles, and clubs in Rome and Calcata. Individually we have experience with jazz clubs from Rome to Turin to Sardegna, and other festivals like the Eddie Lang Jazz Festival, Italian Belgian Jazz Festival, Torino Jazz Festival, and others.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love playing at all sorts of events, it's our goal to do a good job for every occasion really.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Our first concert as a Gianbanda was in Toscana in a little country called Lastra a Signa 1 year ago and our performances developed from there.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Without a doubt Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Best song? There are so many good ones!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. We normally perform 2 x 45 minutes or 2 x 60 minute sets. We’re happy to play longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit the majority of situations.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade and a power supply close to the performance area.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them. We can talk about requests as well before the quote.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers would describe us as a high-energy group that loves to get the audience on their feet dancing.
