About / Biography

Grant’s unique One Man Band, based in NYC, has made him one of the most sought-after event musicians in the Eastern United States.

As a “live looping” artist, singing guitarist, and one man band playing over 500 songs from all genres, Grant thrives at a wide variety of events (over 130 per year), including everything from corporate galas and weddings, to concerts and private parties.

Since all musical elements are created live, and no backing tracks are used, no two performances are ever exactly the same.

HuffPost called him one of “5 Must-See Indie Summer Concerts in NYC.”

He travels internationally, but is based in New York City.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

A performance space for Grant's One Man Band should be at least 5 Feet X 5 Feet. If performing outdoors, an overhead covering of at least 6 Feet X 6 Feet is needed. A single power outlet should be nearby.

What information do you require about a venue?

Do they have in-house sound? Grant will provide all necessary equipment, but occasionally venues have their own audio setups and requirements.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

All necessary sound and performance equipment will be provided by Grant, as well as liability insurance.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, Grant always plays recorded background music through his setup before, between, and after sets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

I performed for a company wide launch of a new Dior fragrance a few years ago. The most memorable venue was probably one of the newest and tallest skyscrapers in Manhattan - The Spiral, in which I provided cocktail jazz music on the top floor. It had an incredible view overlooking Manhattan, with a view centered upon the similarly sized Empire State Building.

What's your favourite type of event?

I love a variety of events, but I tend to enjoy corporate entertainment and cocktail events most of all. I like to strike a balance between getting folks "in the mood", and providing a perfect ambience for socializing.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I've been performing as a singer since I was 6 years old, and I studied music theory and composition in college. When a friend and I started playing the bar and restaurant circuit in NYC in 2014, we were astonished at how well we were doing, and I decided to pursue it full-time.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

So impossible to say, but I dearly love Stevie Wonder, and probably The Beatles. There's no way I can decide on a greatest song of all time.

What do you like best about live looping?

I love that it's Live! I don't pre-record anything, and I never use pre-selected backing tracks, so everything you're hearing, from the drums and bass, to the guitar and keys, is performed or recorded on the spot. It means that no two performances are ever exactly the same, making each event totally unique.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

For standard events, my sound technician/roadie and I usually arrive about 90 minutes early. For more formal events, I'll arrive anywhere from a day or two in advance, up to 2 hours ahead of time. My sets range from 40-90 minutes, after which I'll take a short break (with background music playing through my setup).

Are you happy to perform outside?

Happy to perform outside, but I require an overhead covering of at least 6 feet by 6 feet.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely - if I know it, I'm happy to play it. For any special requests ahead of time, I can prepare a custom arrangement, which usually require 15-40 hours of work to put together.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Here's one recent review:
"Grant Swift was amazing. Seriously, he's a Musical Genius and a wonderful, amazing human being with an Angelic voice. We hired Grant for our wedding. We didn't like the usual route of hiring a DJ - we kinda think DJs are tacky for wedding, and who wants to do the cha cha slide? Our wedding was in an old barn filled with antiques and rustic decor, and having a musician like Grant fit the vibe. Grant provided a list of songs that he knows- over 500 songs. We selected a bunch of Jazz, Indie Rock, and more that went with our theme. He also prepared custom arrangements of new songs for our first dances since they were not in his repertoire.

Afraid that no one will get on the dance floor without a DJ? You're wrong. Both adults and kids were on the dance floor from the beginning. Everyone had a great time and loved his music and singing. We would recommend Grant for any event."
