About / Biography

Heathfield Events is the events arm of Sonus Media LTD, an organisation that has provided musicians, sound, lighting and technical expertise to the UK film, TV, broadcast and media industries since 2001. Heathfield Events gives you access to the musicans and expertise you normally only see in the best show, theatres and festivals, but at a price comparable to 'local' acts and services. How? Because major shows go on breaks, regularly swap performers and suppliers, and our people love what they do and need to keep they skills on point!

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

An electrically tested 13 amp socket is required at a minimum. For larger events, multiple separate 13 amp feeds are required as power consumption may exceed 13 Amps. For the largest events, several 16 or 32 Amp feeds may be required.

All performances should be planned to be sheltered. This is for the protection of both the electrical equipment, but also the performers musical instruments and themselves from both rain and intense sunlight. The performance area should be flat, solid and dry. Grass is acceptable in limited situations for limited performers. The specific space required is dependent on the nature of the performer.

Unloading and parking as near as possible to the performance area is required.

What information do you require about a venue?

If providing musicians, we need to know the size of the performance area.
If providing sound services, a more detailed layout of the performance and audience areas is required.
Information about any sound limiter, sound curfew, and final off site times is required. Larger events will take extended pack-up times.
Finally, the venue power supply must be enough to power the musician's equipment and sound system. For larger events, even indoors, more detailed power discussion will be required.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We recommend providing musical acts, sound and lighting from a single vendor as this not only reduces overall costs, but the team are used to working together delivering faster setup and breakdown, and a slicker show. Should *only* the entertainment, lighting or sound be required, this is all very possible. We provide only sound and lighting for various large scale public events, as well as small intimate soloist and open mic nights

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. we can provide a licenced public Spotify facility or a full DJ service.

Our band has their own sound guy so only need to 'dry hire' the sound equipment

Our main value is in the expertise and experience of our people - that is really what you are hiring, and the high-end equipment happens to come with them. We will be unlikely to do a pure 'dry hire' where we simply drop off and pickup the equipment, particularly for larger events. However for smaller events needing less complicated sound equipment, we can discuss our people setting up, sound checking, leaving, then coming back later to pickup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

So many great events and venue but a few stick in my mind...
One of our most popular vocalists and drummers were hired for a gig at the top of the Gerhkin (St. Marys Axe) in London. Very exclusive event with amazing views!. NDAs were signed regarding the attendees list, but our guys were asked to play for an extra 90s minutes but the newly weds!
In terms of best crowed, a small but perfectly formed birthday event recently in Reading. While initially booked at a private birthday, it was actually opened up to the public on the night, and the crowds flocked in! The vibe was epic and the venue are now changing what they do on a Saturday night!

What's your favourite type of event?

I love all types of events, and we always make sure the music is delivered 100%, so as a result the lighting is always the optional extra
delivered with "best endeavours based on time available". So I love it when the client has the budget to go the extra mile on the show and dedicate time for lighting design and stage dressing. It really turns up the night up a notch! But this applies to everything from Solo events right up to product launches and festivals

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

As the company founder, Music is in my family blood right from the 1920's when my great uncle was a drummer in a big band in Henley on Thames. My grandfather was a blues / jazz harmonica player in the 40's and 50's, while my dad started gigging in the early 1970's until 2020. As well as inheriting my family love of music and performing, I love the technical stuff, and what it takes to put on 'a show', hence the business additional strands of high quality sound and lighting. I've met some great people along the way that I now love to work with, and trust to deliver even the most high profile events (Royal Palaces, livce TV and internet broadcasts etc...)
First gig was as the school Children in Need disco, 1991!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Personally, I love a bit of classic rock and roll, or anything with guitars! So anything from Buddy Holly, The Beatles, via Deep Purple and Whitesnake, Oasis and Ash, right up to The Darkness and Steel Panther! But our artists have very wide-ranging influences, and when talking to them, frankly I haven't heard of many of their jazz, funk, vintage, or sea-shanty influences! But I'm no expert and I always trust our audience' reaction, and the fact they are always rebooked 😊

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

For a medium to large size wedding or corporate event with 100 + people, with 7pm opening, with lighting, we would recommend 4pm arrival. This allows for loading in, musicians setup, sound system setup, lighting setup, and sound check.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, the performance area should be sheltered to protect from rain or sun, and be on a hard, flat, dry surface for the performance. Grass is acceptable in very limited scenarios e.g. vocal soloist on tennis-court quality grass.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We'll always start with a proven set list for the type of the event, however clients are more than welcome to request specific songs. We even offer 'Bandaoke' - Karaoke but with a live band - so it's requests all night!

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

I do not recall having any feedback for either our musicians or sound services that isn't 4 or 5 out of 5. We really do always try to go above and beyond. While many of our acts also provided a background-music eque performance we geeral provide high energy, "get the party started" entertainment, and are the main act at events. Most of our performances are ex-west end stars or ex-touring musicians and so , , and often get involved in resolving other issues that resolve. We fixed a broken bar pump once!

The night will end up being 'fluid' do we have to stick a rigid agenda? Are you flexible?

We are completely flexible!
We'll be ready to go from when you need us, and we can stop, start, restart, and replan at short notice all night. The main thing to note is if the total amount of time the artists performs is more that 20% of the original contracted time, this will be chargeable. Additionally, if the music is classical or has required music to be arranged, there may be limit to how flexible the musicans can be, as they will be reading pre-arranged music, but we will always do our best!

We are planning a larger event with multiple performers in multiple area - is this possible

Yes! We have artists suitable for everything from low key entrance music, reception entertainment right up to the main event, in varying genres, and all the high end sound and lighting equipment to deliver and major multi-genre event your clients with love
