One of the most unforgettable gigs in my career was performing alongside the renowned artist Jules in an electrifying live show. Jules’ exceptional talent and artistry brought out the best in me as a musician, and together we created a magical experience that captivated the audience. Sharing the stage with such a celebrated figure pushed me to new heights, blending my saxophone melodies with Jules’ vibrant energy and distinctive style.
Another career highlight was performing with the iconic Gospel singer J.J. Hairston. Known for his powerful voice and inspirational music, collaborating with him was both humbling and exhilarating. Playing alongside J.J., I felt the profound connection between music and spirit, as we moved the audience in a way words alone could never achieve. The experience deepened my passion for using music to inspire and uplift.
As for venues, I’ve been fortunate to play at some incredible locations, but nothing compares to stages that foster connection and amplify
My favorite types of events to perform at are proposals and weddings. There’s something truly magical about being part of such intimate, love-filled moments. Proposals carry this incredible sense of surprise and emotion—being able to set the mood with my music as someone takes that life-changing step is an honor I never take lightly.
Weddings, on the other hand, are pure celebrations of love. From serenading the bride’s walk down the aisle to adding energy to the reception, it’s amazing to see how music can elevate these unforgettable memories. To be a part of someone’s love story, creating the soundtrack to their most special day, is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do. It reminds me why I fell in love with music in the first place—its power to connect and move people.
My journey as a performing saxophonist began in high school, where I first discovered my love for live music. I started small, playing at school events, local gigs, and community functions, using every opportunity to sharpen my skills and build confidence.
In college, I took things to the next level, performing at a variety of events while balancing my studies and growing as an artist. My time at Salisbury University, where I minored in music, allowed me to dive deeper into my craft and connect with audiences in more meaningful ways.
After college, my passion for music led me to opportunities beyond the local scene, and I began traveling the world to perform. From weddings and special events across the U.S. to international stages in places like Nigeria, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with incredible artists and sharing my sound with diverse audiences.
Each step of this journey has been a learning experience, and it’s been amazing to watch my career evolve from those early.
I’ve been influenced by a wide range of artists, each contributing to the way I approach music and performance. However, my favorite artist has to be Burna Boy. His ability to seamlessly blend Afrobeat rhythms with powerful storytelling and vibrant energy is truly inspiring.
One of my all-time favorite songs is his hit “Ye”—a track that not only resonates deeply with audiences but is also one of my favorite pieces to play on the saxophone. Its infectious melody and rhythm make it a joy to perform, and it never fails to get people moving and engaged.
As for the greatest song of all time, that’s a tough one. Music is so subjective, but if I had to choose, “Ye” holds a special place for its global impact and how it has personally influenced me as an artist.
My typical setup time is 1 to 2 hours in advance of the performance. This allows ample time to:
• Unload and set up equipment.
• Arrange the performance area for the best sound and interaction.
• Conduct a quick sound check to ensure everything is perfect for the event.
When it comes to the performance itself, I tailor the duration to suit your event. Whether it’s a short, impactful set or a full evening of music, I work closely with clients to deliver an unforgettable experience that fits their vision.
I absolutely relish the opportunity to perform outdoors! As a saxophonist, there's something truly exhilarating about playing in the open air, especially when the weather is just right. The fresh breeze and natural surroundings create a magical atmosphere that enhances the music and makes the experience unforgettable.
Yes, clients definitely have a say in what I play! While I do have a set repertoire, I'm always open to incorporating specific song requests. I believe that personalizing the performance enhances the overall experience. If a client has particular songs in mind, I'm more than happy to learn them to ensure the music resonates with their vision and preferences. This collaborative approach not only makes the event more special but also allows me to connect with the audience on a deeper level.
Previous clients often describe my performances as captivating and memorable. Many have praised the energy and emotion I bring to each piece, creating an engaging atmosphere that resonates with the audience. They frequently mention the seamless blend of genres and my ability to adapt to different settings, whether it's a lively event or a more intimate gathering.
Clients also highlight the professionalism and dedication I demonstrate, noting how I work closely with them to ensure their musical preferences are met. The positive feedback is reflected across my website, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms, where many share their experiences and appreciation for my work under the name JBY Sax. It's incredibly rewarding to know that my music leaves a lasting impression!
I have been performing for over a decade now. This extensive experience has allowed me to refine my craft and develop a unique style that resonates with audiences. Each performance adds to my journey, enriching my musical expression and deepening my connection with listeners.
