A lot may wonder about the story behind “the guy in the hat” with a lot calling him Jose Sax. Joseph Tinotenda Chinouriri is an Award winning saxophonist famously known for his famous unique cross-cultural style of music which fuses from popular music to jazz just to mention but a few.
Having had music in his blood because he grew up in a musical family Joseph grew up a drummer and had his first tour to the United Kingdom in 2010. He then embarked on his professional career in the following year were he worked with Naphtali Chivandikwa also known as “Gurity” this is the same year he finished his high school education at Prince Edward School. Joseph started playing the saxophone in 2011 after being motivated by Hiram Koopman from South Africa who performed at the Jabula NLCC Conference.
2012 was an eventful year for Joseph as he embarked on his journey as a saxophonist. The young gentleman joined Zimbabwe College of Music as a student, however because of his excellence and zeal in music Joseph dropped out as a student and began tutoring at the same institution. In the same year, Joseph joined two different musical groups Mabhanan’ana and Zimbo-Ita. The same year performing with a hat became his trademark. In the same year Mr Baffour Ankomah, Joseph’s dad bought him a Saxophone. In 2013 he went for his second European Tour he met his mentor Mr. Gian Carlo who fell in love with Joseph’s talent and personality and dedicated a strict three-hour daily drill of the Saxophone. Since then. The multi award winning saxophonist is stretching his boundaries and working hard to live his dream as an internationally acclaimed Saxophone player. He has played and recorded for over a 100 artists locally and internationally, and he is part of an alluring Intotal Band that came to life in 2014 and has worked with exceptional artists such as the late Dr. Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi.
Apart from the Saxophone, the multi-talented artist has mastered the art of playing the piano, mbira, marimba, clarinet, and drums. The young man successfully launched a Simple Impact Charity, which takes care of widows and orphans as Joseph has love and compassion for orphans and widows. The Simple Impact has a charity show that is held on the 10th of December annually as he also celebrates his birthday. The birth of Simple
Impact resulted in a music school that is open for 6 months yearly from the musical school branches out the Exclusive Brass Section.
In his spare time, Joseph finds pleasure in traveling, baking, cooking, and animal viewing. Above all Joseph is a Christian who is about to embark on the most significant musical journey of his life.

We love playing at weddings, parties and restaurants.
We started gigging whilst guests were having their dinner and we played Afro jazz music and covers.
I’m influenced by Kenny G and he is my favorite artist of all time.
