Joshua Mercado is a nationally touring trumpet player and pianist who's played with celebrities like Joey Fatone, AJ McLean, Debbie Gibson, Chris Kirkpatrick, and even Murr from Impractical Jokers. I've played at large and historic venues such as The Salt Shed, the Capitol Theatre, The Factory, and the Ryman to name a few.
Mercado is also known locally for his transcriptions and horn arrangements, specifically how in the style and legible the parts are, writing for national productions such as the "A Legendary Night" tour.
Having graduated from the University of Central Florida and currently getting his Masters at William Paterson University in the field of jazz studies, he has also made a name for himself as a jazz trumpeter, playing with musical legends such as Rodney Green, Clarence Penn, and Winard Harper.
Depending on the gig, I might need a mic or knowledge to bring my wireless mic beforehand. I also would like to a least know what music is being requested well before the date of the performance. I also would need to have some specifications on attire.
I would just need to know where to go for parking and the rehearsal/performance.
I have my own wireless microphone that I can connect to a system.
No, I cannot.
The best gig I've done is when I went on a national tour with Joey Fatone from NSYNC and AJ McLean from Backstreet Boys. We played at great and historic venues like The Salt Shed, MGM Grand National, and The Ryman to name a few.
It would either be small intimate settings where I'd be playing straight ahead jazz with a trio or quartet or large scale weddings or dance performances where people are just enjoying themselves and having a good time.
Before I joined the band, the trumpet player that was playing for Joey Fatone had unfortunately passed. They needed someone to fill his shoes and the saxophone player they had just hired was my friend and suggested me. They liked my playing enough to stick with me all these years so I stuck with them.
This is a tough question as I draw inspiration and love many different artists across many different genres. If I had to pick one however, it would have to be Freddie Hubbard. His songs "Intrepid Fox" and "Arietis" are two of my favorite songs of his.
It depends on the gig and the venue. If I'm playing with a big band, typically it'll be about 2 hours. If it's a wedding, it might be the whole day.
As a trumpet player, I love playing outside since it means I get to put a little more air into my horn. I wi say, it would be very nice not to be outside in any "extreme" weather conditions.
The client can choose what I play but it would be very helpful if they establish that well before the date of the gig.
Previous customers have raved about the energy that I bring and the seriousness of my craft.
