La Rosa Oscura Flamenco Flamenco Dancer, Chicago-based, traditional & fusion

A 4’ x 8’ wooden stage is the ideal minimum, with the ability to move amongst the audience as well if possible. Flamenco is meant to be intimate, although it’s still functions well in larger scenarios. I have a boombox that can handle a fairly large room, but does not travel very far outside. I run the sound from my phone. My gear is fairly portable, but I need a couple of chairs or a table on the stage for all of the props.
I do require a space where I can change Costumes and store my suitcase that holds all of my gear.

I need to know what type of flooring and stage/audience set up. I also need to know what type of sound equipment I’ll be using so that I can determine how to run my music.

I can bring my boombox. I have no lighting equipment.

Yes, I play music in between my sets from my phone.

The best gigs have level wood flooring and good ceiling clearance. They are smaller spaces where audiences can be drawn in to my show.

I love a cocktail bar where I can be very close to the audience and move between tables or stay on the stage. But I have truly loved every event I have done.

I’ve been performing in restaurants and bars, fundraisers, and birthday parties, school shows and library events for the past seven years, independently, and with a dance company that I belong to for three years outside of New York City. Right now I perform mainly in Chicago at the restaurant Bulerias tapas bar.

Sabicas is my favorite guitarist of all time. And I will forever be inspired by the dancers Carmen Amaya and La Singla.

I typically perform 15 to 20 minutes sets with a 10 minute rest afterwards, which allows me to change costume.

A wood floor is best for the acoustics of the technical footwork. Other flooring can also work but are not ideal. I know a Flamenco Guitarist who can play in between my sets if you would like continuous entertainment.

I appreciate the opportunity to do a sound check, but it is not always necessary. I run the sound from my phone.

Yes, I am happy to perform outside, but there will be an extra $15 charge for having to bring along my portable floor. Please let me know if I need to bring my own sound equipment. I have a generally loud enough boombox.

Clients absolutely have a say in what I perform! Let me know the vibe you are looking for, and I can customize my costuming to be more traditional or more modern and sexy. I can do more traditional songs, or I can do more fusion songs. It is also helpful to know if I will be on a stage away from people or if I will have the opportunity to mingle and perform amongst the audience, weaving in between tables and that sort of thing. I do great crowd work.

People have called my performances stunning, riveting, intriguing. When the crowd is ready to party, I bring them up to join me. When they are quiet, or it is a seated dinner event, I draw them in and have them focused on every small movement.
