Martina and Joy (a.k.a Bom!) is an acoustic duo featuring the wonderful singer Martina Bergonzoni (Martina Effy) and guitarist Joy Goh. They met during their Jazz Studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Jazz Department).
In this duo project, we perform Brazilian music, including Bossa Nova, Samba, MPB, Pagode, Forro, and Brazilian Jazz. Martina sings while Joy plays the guitar.
What makes this duo special is that Martina, a talented singer, also excels at playing the guitar. Occasionally, she takes over the guitar part, singing and playing simultaneously, while Joy handles Brazilian percussion instruments like the pandeiro and cavaquinho. This adds a unique and dynamic element to our performances, offering more than the typical duo experience.
Martina's warm and beautiful voice provides a calm, comforting, and delicate sound. Many audience members have shared that they were deeply moved by her singing. Additionally, Martina's ability to engage the audience during up-tempo songs, often encouraging sing-alongs, creates an interesting and joyful atmosphere.
This project has performed at various venues, including theaters, festival and private events, such as Tivoli Vredenburg, Laaktheater, and Theater Munganga.
The ensemble can be expanded to a trio or quartet by adding musicians we frequently collaborate with, such as the renowned drummer Alaor Soares, if needed.

Martina and I met at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, when we were studying there in Jazz since 2018.
We had a passion of Brazilian music, and we loved to play with each other, that's why we started this duo.

Martina sings most of the time, and I play the guitar.
However, sometimes Martina also plays a bit of guitar while singing. And I will play Pandeiro / Cavaquinho. And this can give us an almost full band sound, which is also a thing that makes our duo very special.
We normally do an easy set-up,
for private events, we arrive 45-60min before we start to play . Normally we only need 15-20minutes to set everything up.
And we normally need 10min rest every hour in order to not hurting the vocals

We can learn the songs the clients like, but we usually limit it to around 3 songs. We think this is also logical, otherwise, it's clear we are not the ones the client actually is looking for.
But they are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire
