About / Biography

Matt Guza Bio

Matt Guza is an extremely active professional drummer and drum teacher. He has an extensive musical background, having studied classical percussion with Robert Nowak, theory and technique with Jeff Johnson, of the Glenn Miller orchestra, and drum set with the legendary New Orleans percussionist Johnny Vidacovich. His formal education includes the U.S. Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia and the Community College of Philadelphia where he studied sound recording and music technology.

For the past several years , Matt has been privileged to travel the world as drummer for BB Kings All Stars at sea with Holland America. Syd Normans pour house on NCL and part of one of Princess Cruise Line’s premier party bands, “The New Deal”, which performed on the flagships Regal and Royal. Along with his daily duties as the band drummer, he has successfully performed in many of the ship’s high-profile events, including: the Princess World Orchestra (World Music event), Bravo!, Festivals of the World, and the Love Boat Disco Deck Party.

Prior to working on cruise ships, Matt lived in New Orleans, where he was busy as a freelance musician and also performed in his own music duo ‘Krewe De Guza’. His duo performed at the popular uptown venue, “Le Bon Temps Roule”, every Sunday night for about two years. He was also a member of the 307th and 78th Army bands stationed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Fort Dix, New Jersey. While in the military band, he performed everything from jazz and R & B combos, to concert band, military parades and ceremonies.

Matt has recorded percussion for major motion picture soundtracks, including, “The Brothers Bloom”. He is also a songwriter, having recorded several full-length albums on which he played all of the instruments and vocals.

Matt is a member of the Percussive Arts Society. His teaching centers on reading, technique, coordination, and knowledge of styles. He has conducted clinics and taught both privately and in music stores in Philadelphia, New Orleans, and North Carolina.

Matt is currently looking forward to working with Cruise Lines, Hotels, casinos and continuing a successful career.
