About / Biography

Hiway16 is an upbeat group based in Gig Harbor with keys and harmonica added to the drums, bass and fabulous lead guitar. We have a female front plus four male vocalists to bring our audiences a great variety of style and harmony. We are not the usual classic rock cover band, our covers are from many artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenney Wayne Shepherd, The Blues Brothers, Clapton, Janiva Magness, Danielle Nicole, even one from Led Zeppelin, and some rockers from the Beatles and Chuck Berry for fun!

Hiway16 is active and/or has played at the Spar, The Garage in Bremerton, The Bethel Tavern in Port Orchard, 3 Eagles clubs, The Penalty Box in Lakewood, McCloud's in Bremerton, The New Way Lounge in Port Orchard, The Cabin Tavern in Shelton and others. We've entertained at Fathoms of Fun in Port Orchard, Allyn Days, Party in the Park at Sehmel Park and Peace Valley Festivals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Best gig: Either the Spar in Ruston or the Allyn Days Festival 2024. Best venue: The Garage in Bremerton..good stage, roomy dance floor, bar is laid out well, bands are very well treated by staff, good food. People go there to hear good music.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love playing at any event where guests are fully engaged and having a great time! Our favorite type of event , though, is outdoor fairs and festivals.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We all have different stories from our youth. Privates lessons, school band, even self-learning. After parting from a classic rock band, we formed a blues band in 2003. We started gigging locally that year by self-promoting.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I've been influenced by Greg Rollie of Santana, Ray Manserak of the Doors and Jon Lord of Deep Purple. Our members speak of Clapton, The Allman Bros, Etta James, Big Momma Thornton, Willie Dickson. My two favorite songs are "At This Moment", by Billy Vera, and "Still Got the Blues for You", by Gary Moore.

What sets your band apart?

Our guitar player is as good as they come. His leads are played in the style/feel of each song, therefore making them unique rather than repetitive perfunctory licks. This gives so much more emotion to each tune.
Our keyboard player is great at rockin' piano as well as groovin' organ.
Our harmonica man always gets a shoutout from the dance floor, and his raspy voice has a great range.
Our front gal is gutsy, dynamic and reaches your soul.
Our female vocalist and 4 male vocalists are able to mix and match so you are not bored with the same mono timbre all through the gig.
With keys and harmonica, we provide everything from a single instrument/voice, to al full-bodied sound.
One more thing..we engage our audiences..We want them to feel we are just having a good time with them..

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We prefer a 2 hour setup time. Our drummer prefers 3. WE usually play 3 sets of 45 minutes with no longer than 15 minute breaks.
We are able to play 4 sets as well, and usually have a well-known fun encore song!

Are you happy to perform outside?

We enjoy playing outside, with the provision of a solid, level stage/playing space, and canopy or hard covering. If generator power is required, it must be disclosed during negotiation, must be a quiet generator, manned by client, and we will stipulate full pay regardless of any generator issues.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We have a list of songs we select for the event, but we are open to clients suggesting songs with the understanding that learning time and instrument limitations may preclude performing them.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

We've been told that we're a great band, fun, tight, entertaining and very enjoyable. Our audiences like the fact that we have a refreshing list of tunes other than standard classic rock or pop.
