The Mid-Century Modernes perform "the soundtrack of your life."
Our targeted demographic is 20s upward. Our song list is unbeatable with performances to match. We are a five-piece band staying true to the classic rock sounds of the 1960s through late 1980s. Thanks to the scope of our collective experiences in the music world, we are encyclopedic on the classic rock songbook. We treat these beloved songs and this repertoire with the passion and energy that made them great. Our audiences love us!
What to Expect
Our goal is to be part of your winning team for a successful gathering. We review every detail with the client in order to deliver a memorable, rollicking and fun performance. We arrive early and we can leave after your guests have gone home after your fabulous event. We provide three full sets of 45 minutes to one hour as needed. We dress up. We bring our own PA system, lighting, and extra equipment as required.
Apart from our full band, we can offer a quieter musical solo or duo for the walk-in or during meal time. We also have the capability to play your own curated playlist of recorded music during breaks. Do you have special songs that you'd like to hear? We can play requests and do special featured cameos with your guests with a bit of advance planning to help make your event even more memorable.

We need a performance space of at least 8 meters x 5 meters. We require 2 x 13 amp power sockets and 3 parking spaces. If outdoors, we require a cover.
We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. What are the noise ordinances in your area?
Yes, we’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as a simple lighting rig.
Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music. We can also have our clients use their own music from their own source that we will plug into our system on our breaks.
Jaime and I have had the pleasure to be the backline for regular parties in NYC and CT for high-profile music industry people and many Beatles-connected musicians and bands, including Beatlemania, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, Badfinger, KISS and others. Plus many television celebrities and art gallery owners. In Toronto it was a thrill to play to a packed house at the famed El Mocambo Tavern, and to play at Ribfest for thousands of people who were dancing and singing along with us!
We love playing at all sorts of events, but special events and parties are our favorites! The guests are always happy and it’s easy to get them dancing. We are a very guest-friendly band so it's always a privilege to make people joyful.
Each of us has been in the music and performance profession for a lifetime. One of our members is a world-class sound recording engineer for major sports/entertainment who has his own business. He is the senior team member of sound crews for the Olympics, Canada's Got Talent, plus probably any show that you've ever seen on network TV. The rest of us have been in the musicians union since our teens, or in affiliations for recording engineers and musicians. Two of our five members have a professional recording studio. As for me (Lynda Kraar, founder of the Mid-Century Modernes), I've had a lifetime of event planning/management that sprang out of my musical talents as a guitar player, bassist and singer - in arenas, concert settings, nightclubs and at private parties.
It's impossible to say. Any visionary musician who is able to uplift audiences through music and performance is someone we admire, respect and emulate. The "secret sauce" is our song list.
Always. We will be sure to present it to you and modify our agreement to meet requirements all around.
We normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. We normally perform 2 x 45 minutes or 3 x 45 minute sets. We’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best. All will be negotiated and planned before we do our final agreements.
We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade/cover, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.
We can learn specific songs before the event but we usually limit this to 5 songs. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them.
Previous customers would describe us as a high energy group that loves to get the audience on their feet dancing.
