About / Biography

NaMaNa, a dynamic duo and real-life couple has embarked on a captivating journey through life and music. Their musical partnership blossomed in 2014, inspired by their transformative travels through India. Enthralled by the country's culture and vibrancy, they forged the enchanting duo NaMaNa and started a musical odyssey that spanned five unforgettable years, performing both as NaMaNa and alongside musicians from across the globe. In pursuit of fresh inspiration and growth, they ventured to Canada in 2019, settling initially in Toronto. There, they were alumni of the Emergence Cohort program by Small World Music, immersing themselves in the Canadian music industry and sharing their harmonious melodies with audiences throughout Toronto. As the call of the ocean and a desire for smaller communities beckoned, NaMaNa transitioned to the East Coast, where they continue to weave their musical magic, spreading joy and harmony wherever they go.

NaMaNa's music is a fusion of the cello's soft tones, the vibrant sound of bass, and mesmerizing vocals, complemented by the ethereal resonance of the musical saw. Their repertoire spans various genres and languages, crafting intellectual compositions that evoke a tranquil lounge atmosphere. Despite being a duo, their rich and immersive sound captivates audiences, offering a unique and unforgettable musical experience.

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

It's truly difficult to pinpoint the single best gig or venue we've ever performed at because each experience brings something unique and memorable. We've had the privilege of playing over 500 concerts around the world, from the stunning shores of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans to intimate settings and bustling venues.

We find joy and fulfillment in all types of performances, whether they are small, intimate gatherings or large, energetic crowds. What truly makes a performance special for us is seeing how our music resonates with the audience and knowing that we're the right fit for their event. When people connect with our music and enjoy the atmosphere we create, that's when we're happiest.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love performing at all kinds of events and are committed to delivering the highest quality service regardless of the occasion. Our professionalism and passion for music ensure an exceptional experience for every audience.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Our musical journey began with a shared love for various styles, from classical pieces to contemporary hits. Influenced by iconic artists like The Beatles and jazz legends, we developed a unique sound that resonates with audiences at various events. Before forming Namana, we both gained extensive experience performing in different settings, which helped us refine our craft and create a polished act.
We created Namana to bring our fresh and exciting musical experience to a wider audience. Starting in our home city, we quickly built a reputation for our dynamic performances and versatile repertoire, catering to weddings, corporate events, and private gatherings. From the outset, our project was designed with a focus on performing internationally, allowing us to connect with diverse audiences across cultures.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Lhasa De Sela, Beatles, Duft Punk

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We typically arrive one hour before the performance for smaller events that require less equipment and two hours prior for larger events or those that include vocal performances. Our standard sets are 2 x 45 minutes or 2 x 60 minutes. While we’re flexible and can adjust our set lengths if needed, we’ve found that these durations work best for us and our audiences.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We love playing outdoors and are happy to add to the ambiance of any outdoor event. We just ask for a few simple things to ensure the best performance possible: a shady spot to keep our instruments safe, a flat and stable surface to set up on, and a nearby power supply so we can keep the music going without interruptions.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients can choose their preferred music from our repertoire list and we can arrange a couple of additional songs of the client's choice by request.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Clients often describe NaMaNa's performances as captivating and versatile, blending classical influences with pop and jazz in unique arrangements. Praised for our soulful and engaging style, we adapt to various event atmospheres, ensuring every performance feels special and memorable.
