Pat started playing guitar at 14. He took music lessons at neighbourhood music store. He also took bass, guitar and piano lessons at 17 before getting serious about guitar. That was the instrument that truly spoke to him. He studied the Segovia approach with teacher was Eugene Martnec at Ring Music. For a solid year he practicing endlessly, focussed entirely becoming proficient on guitar. Pat's Influences include The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers, Santana, Bob Marley, Ska Music, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, and Hank Williams.
Pat started busking with a friend and musical partner on Toronto’s legendary Yonge Street in the summers of 1979 and 80 and then joined reggae band Burning Desire in 1981, which propelled him from the familiar stomping grounds and local scene into the surrounding areas around southern Ontario. From Burning Desire sprung the reggae/rock/ska band 2 Pulse 3. During this time, Pat began writing and performing original songs. The blues took over his playing more and more and Pat continued to play around the southern Ontario circuit and Toronto’s club scene in rooms such as The Horseshoe, Isabella Hotel, Black Swan, El Mocambo Black Bull, Rivoli and Cameron House. Pat eventually joined SingSing with Crash Morgan and played around Toronto showcasing at the Black Music Association where they were inducted as honorary members at the Rivoli on Queen Street by RZee Jackson.
