About / Biography

Piper Jazz Collective is a group of the top jazz musicians from the South West of England. They have been playing at private events and weddings for upwards of 10 years and can provide music ranging from solo piano and duo to quintet and larger ensembles.

All members of the collective are experienced musicians in their own right, engaged in creative endeavours that have taken them to Glastonbury Festival, Bristol Beacon, The Ivy, and many jazz festivals around the country. In addition, Alex the piano player has a current residency at Ronnie Scott’s!

The musicians come together in this collective to provide high-quality jazz for events across the UK and beyond. They pride themselves on their professionalism, communication, and most importantly, high-quality jazz! Take a look at the videos below, and get in touch if you have an event that you think we would be suited for.

UPBEAT SONGS

Here in my arms

Lover

I've got five dollars

You took advantage of me

The lady is a tramp

This can't be love

I wish I were in love again

Thou swell

All of me

"A" train

Ain't we got fun

I'm beginning to see the light

It don't mean a thing

If I were a bell

Get Happy

I got Rhythm

Zing! Went the strings of my heart

Blue Room

Dream a little dream

Cheek to cheek

Manhattan

Mountain Greenery

Everything I've got

My baby just cares for me

Fly me to the moon

Stella by starlight

But not for me

MELLOW MUSIC/MUSIC FOR DINING

My funny valentine

Bewitched

Misty

The man that got away

I didn't know what time it was

I could write a book

Blue moon

Summersite

Isn't it romantic

Blue room

Every time we say goodbye

With a song in my heart

Spring is here

My romance

Autumn leaves

I'll never smile again

I'm a fool to want you

My one and only love

Skylark

At last

Sentimental journey

Like someone in love

Stella by starlight

Moon Indigo

Stormy weather

Why can't you do right

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Duo: We require 2 plug sockets with one meter of the performing space. We require one parking space
Quartet: We require 3 plug sockets and 2/3 parking spaces. Depending on the event and the desire of the client- we can hire and bring a PA or would need a PA set up

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue. Depending on the time and location of the venue, we would need dinner.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We don't have our own PA but for extra we can hire one and bring it along for our set. We don't provide lighting. We can discuss these options with you. We can provide amplification for duo set up. This includes two amps.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

We played at The Greenbank Pub upstairs in Bristol for a Jazz night. The crowd were lovely and the atmosphere was magic.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love to play all sorts of events. In restaurants and bars, we add great atmosphere.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We all have been played in various groups for a decade. We have vast experience in all kinds of venues from bars, restaurants, event spaces and concert halls. We all regularly gig and have residencies in local venues to Bristol. Many members have gigged in Europe and played many festivals. We are a relatively new collaboration of musicians, however the vocalist and pianist have been playing together for 5 years. The pianist has a monthly residency at Ronny Scott's in London and at The Greenbank in Bristol. They have collaborated on the pianist jazz trio Yetii and played many gigs together in this set up.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Ella Fitzgerald: The ease into which she weaves intrigue into melodies. Her tone so rich and full is stunning. Misty is an all time favourite as well as Skylark. I love a heartfelt ballad!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We would need at least 1 hours for load in and set up before playing. We can play 1 hour set, 1.30min set, over this we would need a break in between such as: 2x 45 min sets or 2x 60 min sets. We’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, ofcourse- if whether permitting. Out of rain and not in full sun. We would need a flat ground and access to a close power supply and plenty of space

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We are happy to discuss with a client any song requests, given enough notice so as to learn the music. We limit this to 2 songs.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

"I hired Bea and the Piper Jazz Collective for my New Year's Eve party in Bristol and they were fantastic! Incredible playing from everyone involved and Bea has a beautiful voice!"
