We are a party brass band, in the spirit of New Orleans brass bands such as Rebirth and Dirty Dozen. We play infectious high energy tunes that make people want to dance and have a good time. We can cater our performances to be "Mardi Gras" themed, play covers that make people want to shake their stuff, or even have more emphasis on traditional jazz. Or, we can happily play an ecclectic set of music.
Need a roving New Orleans band? We got you covered.
Regardless, we make sure people are smiling and having a good time.
We are availble for weddings, parties, cookouts, you name it.
If it is a smaller venue, we require no amplification. We are a 10-piece ensemble, so small spaces don't work. However, since we don't have amplifiers, we take up less space per person than a rock band.
We need to know about load in/out information as well as what to expect in regard to parking.
If it is a smaller venue, we require no amplification. However, if this is a venue/space that would benefit from amplification, we can provide sound equipment. This would need to factored in when negotiating price.
If there is a sound system, we are happy to play music from a playlist between sets (either picked by the client or the band), but this would be part of the negotiated price.
We frequently play at the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival, which is always a great gig. However, the most fun we've had was playing on a downtown Portland street corner during the Portland Winter Light Festival. Within minutes, we had a few hundred people on every corner of the intersection dancing and enjoying our music.
We love playing any event where people can have fun and get down. This can be festivals, parties, weddings, you name it.
Most of the band has bachelor degrees in music and master degrees in either music performance or music education. Many of the band member starting gigging in high school and playing in bars that they were too young to get into. They have experience either as classical musicians and/or jazz musicians. Most of the band makes their primary living teaching music, either in the public school system (most are middle school/high school band directors), private instruction, composers, and marching band writers/instructors.
The band has a wide range of personal influences. However, Rebirth Brass Band has the largest influence on the music we play as a band.
We normally arrive an hour or more early to set up. We are very conscious about agreed "downbeat" times for performances. We normally play two 45-minute sets, but can play longer or shorter depending on what the client needs.
We frequently play outside. If it's during the rainy months, we ask that we are under cover since we have instruments that can get damaged in the rain.
We like to play an eclectic mix, but we can cater to what is best received by the audience. For example, if the event is Mardi Gras themed, we play more New Orleans classics. If it is festivals, we can some of our repertoire that has more funk/blues/soul influences.
High energy and fun party brass music. We make people want to dance.
