Originally from Bocas Del Toro, Panama, OB discovered his passion for percussion at age nine and has since crafted a distinct musical style that reflects his rich heritage.
OB’s versatility spans across genres, effortlessly incorporating straight-ahead jazz, bossa nova, cha-cha, timba, bolero, 6/8 rhythms, mambo and traditional Panamanian folkloric music into his compositions. His music is an homage to diverse influences, presenting listeners with vibrant melodies and intricate rhythms.
Since founding PanaMO in 2002, OB has been performing his original compositions with some of Michigan’s finest jazz musicians. His deep knowledge in music composition and production allows him to create authentic, engaging pieces that resonate with audiences worldwide.
OB’s musicianship is rooted in an extensive musical education, studying vibraphone and jazz theory with masters like Tito Rodriguez and Osvaldo Semphris and learning conga technique from the legendary Tata Güines. His career includes performances with Motown icon Martha Reeves and as an opening act for the legendary Aretha Franklin.
In 2025, OB and PanaMO are set to release their album, For The Loved Ones, a project inspired by his love for life, rhythm, and creativity. Through his music, OB strives to inspire future jazz enthusiasts and musicians, leaving a legacy that celebrates his Panamanian roots and the universal language of jazz.
Most of my repertoire is self-composed, and fortunately, that's what I'm often hired for. However, we also offer jazz standards, Latin jazz standards, and a variety of Latin jazz. For specific occasions, we can tailor the setlist to suit the event, including love songs for February, graduation tunes, 4th of July celebrations, and a special Christmas repertoire
Our basic technical requirements depend on the size of the group and the specifics of the event. Typically, we need adequate stage dimensions to comfortably accommodate the ensemble, parking spaces for musicians and equipment, rest room facilities, and dressing rooms located close to the stage area to enable prompt start times. We’re happy to discuss the details to ensure a seamless performance.
To ensure a smooth and professional performance, we require the following information about the venue:
• Details about the loading/unloading area for equipment.
• Confirmation on whether sound equipment and a sound engineer will be provided.
• If the event is outdoors, confirmation that adequate shelter will be provided to protect the band and equipment from sun and water damage.
• Functional electrical outlets available on the stage area.
Having these details in advance helps us prepare and deliver the best possible experience for your event.
Yes, we can provide sound and lighting equipment if needed. While most venues typically supply these for our performances, we come prepared with our own PA system for all gigs and a basic lighting setup to ensure a seamless experience.
Yes, we can provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between our sets to keep the atmosphere lively and engaging for the audience.
The best gig I've ever done was performing at Miguel Cabrera's farewell at the Detroit Tigers stadium—an incredibly emotional and special moment for everyone involved. As for the best venue, it has to be the iconic Aretha Franklin show on a massive open-air stage right in the middle of an avenue—a breathtaking experience to be part of such a legendary atmosphere.
My favorite type of event is one where the audience is fully engaged and connected with the music, whether it’s an intimate setting or a large-scale festival. I particularly enjoy events that celebrate culture and diversity, as they allow me to share the rich Afro-Latin and Panamanian influences of my music while creating unforgettable moments for everyone involved.
I started playing the conga at just 9 years old, which sparked my lifelong passion for music. Over the years, I traveled extensively, honing my skills and eventually becoming a composer. When I formed my PanaMO ensemble, what was meant to be a brief visit to Detroit turned into something much bigger. After performing at the Detroit Jazz Festival, the city embraced me and my music, and it quickly became my second home—a place where I continue to share my Afro-Latin jazz with incredible audiences.
Tito Puente has been a huge influence on me—his passion, innovation, and mastery of Latin music are truly inspiring. When it comes to "the greatest song of all time," it’s almost impossible to pick just one! I love so many genres, and my favorite tends to change depending on the season or mood. Music is a constant cycle of discovery and inspiration for me, which makes choosing a single song both thrilling and challenging!
We typically arrive at least 2 hours before the performance to set up. Our standard performance consists of two sets, either 2 x 45 minutes or 2 x 60 minutes. While we’re flexible and happy to adjust the duration, we've found that these set lengths work best for both us and our audiences.
We’re comfortable to perform outdoors; however, we request that there be cover, a flat, level surface, and a power supply near the performance area to ensure the best experience for both the band and the audience.
Yes, clients are welcome to request 1 or 2 specific songs, provided we are given ample time to prepare. While we primarily perform from our set repertoire, we’re happy to incorporate a couple of special requests to make the event even more personalized.

You can expect an exciting and dynamic blend of Afro-Latin, Panamanian, Caribbean, Brazilian, and American Afro music, all crafted into a vibrant and culturally rich experience. My performances often feature original compositions from my own repertoire, alongside jazz standards and Latin jazz favorites. We also tailor our sets for specific occasions, offering love songs, graduation tunes, 4th of July anthems, and Christmas music when needed. Whether it’s an intimate event or a large festival, I aim to create a memorable, high-energy atmosphere that connects with every audience.
Our most recent clients include Central Michigan University, where we had an incredible performance.
And just yesterday, we performed two nights in a row at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, the world’s oldest continuously running jazz club since 1934. It’s always an honor to perform at such iconic venues!
