With roots in Greece, Sri Lanka, and East Africa, nomadic musician Sophia Saïra crafts a soundscape that invites listeners on a journey of deep introspection and emotional resonance. A self-taught singer and instrumentalist, Sophia’s music transcends borders and genres, blending the textures of Eastern, Balkan, Greek, Southern Spanish, and Romani folk traditions with powerful, intuitive storytelling. Singing in multiple languages, her voice reflects themes of love, loss, justice, and hope, imbuing each piece with authenticity and a commitment to using music as a catalyst for change and reflection.
Her latest release, 'potami' captures the depths of human experience and reflects on the impermanence of time and the transformative journeys that shape us. The track is a deeply moving reflection on love, loss, and life’s quiet, shifting currents. Meaning “river” in Greek, potámi was first written as a poem after the tragic death of her brother Sebastianos. Though Sophia’s musical journey has evolved greatly since then, she chose to preserve the song’s original simplicity, allowing its raw emotion to be preserved and resonate fully with the listener Accompanied by the soulful clarinet of Zé Castela, Potámi flows through the depths of human experience, capturing the impermanence of life and the surrender to change. Now streaming on all platforms, potámi invites listeners to drift and let go within its haunting, tender melody.
Sophia’s work has reached a community of over 17,000 followers on social media, where her journey has grown organically. Now, with Potami and upcoming EP in spring, she seeks to expand her reach by inviting playlist curators, publishers, and collaborators to help bring her transformative, intimate music to a wider audience. Currently preparing for live performances with Zé Castela, Sophia is eager to connect through events, sound journeys, and melodic storytelling.
