About / Biography

Richard Galiguis is a versatile instrumentalist specializing in smooth electric guitar covers for weddings and private events.

Richard performs an eclectic repertoire of the best Top 40’s songs ranging from the last few decades to modern day hits! Uniquely, instead of vocals, Richard reimagines the song’s vocal melody instrumentally through the electric guitar to everyone’s favorite RnB, Pop, Motown, Reggae, and Rock songs. His song choices are specifically crafted for each event to reflect the vibe of the clientele and their guests. This sound sets the backdrop for a chill and social atmosphere for any intimate or upscale gathering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

The largest gig I have ever done was for 10,000 people playing with Vokab Kompany opening for Iration at the Del Mar Race Tracks in San Diego, CA. We spent the last 10 years touring playing many large festivals like that including Snow Globe, Electric Forest, and Lightning In A Bottle.

What's your favourite type of event?

I've played the huge festival stages but my favorite events are weddings and private events. Weddings and private events are more intimate and in my opinion more meaningful being able to be part of so many couples most important day of their lives. Helping make those memories for them and their families is priceless. Also traveling and performing in beautiful locations meeting amazing people, there is nothing better.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started playing music around the age of 11. I came from a musical family growing up. Formed bands in high school and throughout my early 20's. Played lead guitar in the Latin Jazz Orchestra at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, CA for 3 semesters. Went on to tour with the 5-time San Diego music Award winning hip hop band Vokab Kompany for the following 10 years. After that I was in the house band on the TV show Tonight In San Diego for 5 seasons. During that time I started playing weddings and private events and fell in love with them. I have been playing weddings and private events for the last 5 years.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Some of my influences in the wedding and event space are: Dan Goode, Moses Lin, and Alan Milan

In terms of my general taste I grew up listening to 80's and 90's Pop, Rock, R&B, Soul, and Hip Hop. I am a lover and student of all music and really love a lot of the current music that is coming out now as well. One of my favorite bands in the last 10 years is The 1975.

Obviously it is impossible to name the greatest song of all time, but if I had to I'd choose it would be In These Eyes by Sky Walker.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I try to arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. It usually takes me 1 hour to setup all the equipment and lighting.

For Weddings I can perform the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner reception depending on the couple's needs.
For Private Events I normally perform 2-3 x 45 minutes or 2 x 60 minute sets.

I am happy to accommodate the couple or clients to craft a performance schedule that suits their needs.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, I love performing outside!

My only requests are a flat level surface and a power supply nearby. If it is hot and sunny I ask for a shade and it if it cold out potentially a heater.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Generally clients just let me do my thing and choose the repertoire list in the moment reading the room. I can learn specific songs before the event but I usually limit this to 5 songs. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from my repertoire or let me choose the music for them.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients would describe me as great vibes setting the perfect mood and ambiance so they and their guests can socialize and enjoy themselves. An eclectic mix of 80's-Modern popular songs, along with some unique deeper cuts that everyone loves. I make it more about the guests than myself.
