Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

We have performed all over Ireland, England and Europe. The best events for us are where the audience is up for a party. A recent concert at a Swiss castle with the audience in Medieval dress was quite memorable!

What's your favourite type of event?

Any event where people are thrilled to have authentic Irish dance music and powerful songs is a win for us.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Sean and Julia have performed in a wide variety of genres of music and theatre for the last 30 years. Our son, Oak has been playing Irish music since the age of five and is already experienced in the Swiss music industry.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

For us, the Irish and English traditions are the root of everything we do, with an emphasis on a contemporary interpretation of songs to make the music relevant for today’s age. We love so much music, we couldn’t say just one artist or song is THE best.

Are you a family band?

Yes, as is common in the Irish tradition music is passed on through generations of Lallys, Sweeneys and O’Bards. The current line up of the DooLallys in Switzerland is Sean and Julia Lally with their talented son, Oak.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Set up as required for supplied PA or acoustic. We normally perform 1 x or 2 x 1 hr sets of songs and tunes, with an emphasis on the tunes to get people dancing.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, if the weather is warm and we have shelter from any rain.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Repertoire only

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Electric, wild and rootsy!”, “soulful and moving”, “a great example of the living tradition” are things that have been said about us. In general people come up to us after a show to say that they LOVED the Irish music. Some audience members have even broken into tears as they were so moved.
