Sean Kershaw & NJR play classic country, rockabilly, rock and soul. In a word, Americana. Originals and covers, everything from Johnny Cash, Elvis and Stray Cats to Chuck Berry and Sam Cook. Folks who don't like country like us. Folks who do, love us.
The musicians in the band are all pros and have played worldwide and in recordings you may have heard.
We are usually a 4 piece but can expand to include more instruments (pedal steel, fiddle etc) and female vocals. And of course a solo or duo performance is also an option
We have our own PA system which we can share w other performers and DJ's on the gig, and we also rent it out separately if you need a sound system for your event.

We have our own PA systems and gear, however if the PA and backline are provided we would need: 1 mic/person, 1 monitor/every 2 people. For full 4 piece band, the backline is 1 drum kit, 1 bass amp and 1 guitar amp (the acoustic goes direct).
If we are bringing the PA & backline, we need 1 outlet close to the stage or performance area that does not have anything else connected (ie, a separate circuit, pref 20A). Spatially we need 16 sq ft/person as well as 32 sq ft for the drum kit if applicable. A stage or riser is always preferred but not necessary. If a nighttime or indoor event, we will need basic lighting, or we can bring it.
We need to know where to load in. If indoors, is there a dedicated circuit for the band to plug into. Is there suitable lighting? If outdoors, is there a circuit and canopy, tent or other shelter?
Yes. We have several PA systems from small to large, as well as full backline suitable for anything from a back yard to a block party, street festival or large ballroom. We can share this with any musicians or DJ's who are also on the gig, as long as it is discussed and arranged in advance. There may be an additional charge.
We have basic lighting, including some "party lights".
Yes. We can choose the music, the client can choose, or the client can provide a playlist on their own device. We also have DJ's, line dance instructors and other performers we work with.
Not gonna lie, it was our favorite dive bar Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn. Always a high energy crowd dancing and singing along, and we could stretch out and do whatever we wanted.
Outside of Brooklyn, the Fairview Inn, Talkeetna Alaska is high on our list. And North Carolina has always been kind to us.
That said, we've played weddings and other events in places we'd never been before in front of a crowd that had never even heard of us, and had a fantastic time.
We love a hot sweaty club gig. However weddings and birthdays are always great because everybody is there to have a good time and we love bringing it! In general, anywhere folks are dancing and enjoying themselves is where we want to be.
Sean Kershaw & the New Jack Ramblers emerged from the ashes of 9-11 when Sean's previous band bailed on a weekly gig. The band was initially comprised of friends of various musical backgrounds (punk, jazz, metal) who got together to play country music for fun on the Sunday nights that had suddenly opened up at Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn. Within a year we were booked at other clubs and started performing at weddings and corporate and community events. Soon we were touring, and in 2009 released the CD Coney Island Cowboy.
Influences range from Johnny Cash to Chuck Berry to the Clash. Band members have played at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in philharmonic orchestras, blues festivals and reggae sessions. Music is music. That said, we are a honkytonk band (ie, country and rock'n'roll with a swing feel). We prefer "classic country" such as Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Dolly Parton, as well as rockabilly (Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis) and Western swing (Bob Wills, Asleep at the Wheel). And of course our original tunes, which folks say sound old school.
I can't say what my favorite song is, there are so many.
Our typical show is a 4 piece (lead vocals/rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, drums). We like to be at the venue and ready to play at least an hour before showtime. If we are bringing and setting up the PA system, at least 2 hours arrival before showtime is preferred.
Absolutely. We love outdoor gigs, day or night. Just make sure we have a power supply, a tent or canopy for sun or rain, and plenty of water. A level, clean stage or performance area helps too.
We are more than happy to play requests. If the client is hiring us to play a wedding or birthday, for instance, and requests that a song or two be performed that's fine. If the set list is all requests, especially if they fall outside our regular set list, there may be additional charges. We are fairly flexible but remember, we play primarily country and rock'n'roll, and are not the human jukebox band. We play what we like, so most folks who hire us want us for that reason.
Energetic, fun. Danceable.
A quote from a recent client:
We hired Sean and his band for our Yacht Club Western Night and to say they were amazing is an understatement. He was communicative, professional and so easy to work with. The music was spot on and was the perfect mix of traditional old school country and songs everyone knows. They had everyone dancing. Even the non-dancers. We will definitely be having them back again. Do not miss the chance to have them play at your next event.
We usually go into a gig with a set list based on the anticipated crowd or the client's wishes. Once we get started, we may change it up, play different songs, speed it up or slow it down based on the audience response. We have a huge repertoire of covers and originals, so we can turn on a dime or keep the vibe going as the occasion demands. We like to keep it fun and spontaneous, and we find that folks respond positively to that.
Without compromising our sound we are able to appeal to a wide variety of people and tastes. An honest and energetic performance is the best way to reach folks.
